Domestication Manager

Grade: Management
Duration: 1 year, renewable
Location: Mgbu Azuogu, River State, Nigeria, but with extensive travel within southern Nigeria

Tasks:
Under the direct supervision of Project Novella Nigeria’s country Manager and in collaboration with other members of FORM, ICRAF and partner organizations, the incumbent will:
  • Assist Novella Nigeria in setting up a Rural Resource Center in Mgbu-azuogu community of Rivers State, Nigeria with the capacity to produce a minimum of 1 million seedlings per annum.
  • Assist in the training of domestication staff in propagation, planting and managing of Allanblackia trees
  • Assist in the design, implementation and delivery of a Rural Resource Center (RRC) with 1 million seedlings per annum minimum capacity
  • Assist in setting up mother blocks for cuttings harvesting.
  • Assist in the design, implementation and monitoring experiments and/or surveys, enter and analyse data; write reports
  • Monitor project activities in different sites and interact with partner organisations
  • Assist in the development of mechanisms for the scaling-up of domestication
Minimum Qualifications required:
  • University degree in agricultural sciences, forestry or related field
  • Minimum of 6-7 years field experience in setting up, running and managing a nursery site and plantation.
  • Minimum of 2 years participatory research-development; preferably in the forest zone of Africa
  • Read, Write and Speak fluently English
  • Excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, at least one statistical package, and internet
  • Ability to constitute and manage a team for the scaling up of AB domestication in Nigeria
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently, as well as in a team and deliver on agreed targets
  • Ability to work in harmony with persons of different national and cultural background.
